if i find a good deal on a used tuner...superchips or diablo, how can i tell if its vin locked still? do i have to hook it to the truck to tell? or can i just turn it on and it will say what truck its locked to? thanks guys..

 

before you buy it ask the seller if they returned the vehicle to stock programming. If they did your good to go. If it is vin locked when you hook it up it will tell you its registered to another vehicle or something like that.

 

yeah im tryin to save myself from a scammer says he returned to stock but didint...so yeah i guess it would be best to purchase locally so i can hook it up to the truck...

 

unfortunately you wont know til it is plugged into your truck!!!

 

if you buy online just use paypal. if its still locked, file a claim with PP for it being broken, or not the item described (described as unlocked, sent locked) they will give you a refund for sure, then you can pay diablo to unlock it for you.

You can also pay superchips to unlock for $100. You hook the unit to your computer and it downloads the unlocking tool.

 

sweet so either way im pretty good, i just gotta make sure i can get my money back if its locked..otherwise ill pay more than what a new one costs

 

Anyone know the exacts on the unlock costs? I've found a 3815 for $100 but the guy got it in a trade and thinks it's probably locked. Am I looking at $80-100 to unlock?
