Default Ram Mirror LED Mod...

I wanted to install led signals in my mirrors since they weren't an option from the factory. The replacement LED mirrors are just too expensive compared to like $25 for this install. I had some ideas of doing some drilling and wiring up my own LED contraption but I thought these LED strips would much easier. They are weather proof! The bottom pic is of a very similar if not the same LED flxible strips you can get at autozone. I believe the smallest size is an 8 inch strip and can be cut down if needed but i probably wouldn't cut them. They have a test button on the package so you can test them and they seem to be pretty bright. They come with adhesive on the back side for easy application but I would probably replace it a better adhesive. They also have to be hard wired in through my mirrors, doors, etc. The strips are very flexible and very thin so they are pretty easy to work with. I just want to know your thoughts if this is even worth it plus I have some questions!

Here are my questions:
1. I have numbers in the pic of where to put them. 1- would be inside the mirror housing just peeking outward, outside the acutal mirror not on it. 2- would be underneith the mirror housing and I would have to drill a small whole underneith to run the wire and the LED's would be facing downward towards the body of the truck. 3- would be on the inner side of the mirror housing and facing inward which might shine into the truck which i don't want. But I can tuck it further behind the actual mirror and have just the housing around the mirror light up inside which might be kinda neat. (I'm strongly thinking #1 or #3 which is tucked behind the actual mirror. I don't want to drill).

2. If I do this should I have some sort of relay installed in the wiring? I would probably tap into the front signals or attach a 4 pin male plug. With the plug I can just plug right into the 4 pin female tow connector behind the rear bumber, still leaving my bumper mounted tow connection available. I don't like to splice wires on the exterior unless I need to.

3. Do you think i would have too much glare on my mirrors by using location #1?

I tried to provide pics of my idea and the locations I was thinking about putting them. I am only using 1 location per mirror. The pic of the mirror isn't for our rams but its mainly to show you my idea. Feel free to suggest anything! Thanks guys!

I think spot number 3 would be your best bet, also make absolutely sure you get amber LED's and not pure white like those or your gonna have to deal with the local fuzz.

I will get Amber LED strips for sure. I don't need cops following me around! You think #3 with them tucked behind to where it lights up the inner housing around the actual mirror?

Also these strips would be great for that inner bed rail lights that I saw somebody posting about about a month ago. I'm thinking about doing that eventually too. They make them in 24". 4 of those would probably light up the bed real well!

The only thing Nathangfnd is that #2 is on the outside of the housing and #3 is on the inside. You gave me an idea though. Using the longer strips I could start at #1 (where it will be visible) and flex it through #2 (behind the mirror inside the housing), doing the same through number 3. That way #1 will be visible to cars next to me and from number #2-3 it will just light up the inner housing behind the actual mirror. That would be pretty sweet, but damn bright lol!

I could do 2 sets per mirror, one on the inside somewhere and one on the outside. At first my plan was just to have them on the inside but now that I think of it I should do both. I just don't want the strips to look tacky on the outside so I may have find a different type of light for the outers.

I was checkin out the pic and I'm like damn that looks like my truck lmao! Thats a great idea wyseguy77!!

Thanks for the tips and suggestions guys, I appreciate it! Now do I need any type of relays or anything to do this if I tap into my signals? I definitely don't want them blinking too fast like I have a light out or something. I know with my bikes that was a problem with certain aftermarket signals.
