Upgrading Standard to power windows/locks
I just bought a 08 Ram 1500 single cab, short bed. I have manual locks and windows....its driving me nuts! I am looking around ebay for the door actuators and window motors to-do an upgrade. Now from my experience in mechanics, manufactures leave wires in ever base model for every option and just out the motor, part in if the truck/car has the option. This means i should be able to add the switch to the door and plug the actuator in and it be just like it came with it. I understand the windows may be a totally diff story because molding of the doors for the crank up aka roll up. I was wondering you all could tell me if I’m correct as to the wires being there and the fitting of the motors. (I.E. bolt holes for actuators etc) any help is much appreciated and anything I can do for you guys I will
i found the entire window assembly to be different the cheap after market one just turn the handle for you, had it in my Dakota, you best bet is to try and get a doner truck and try and get the power window stuff
p.s the kit i got off ebay broke in 6 months!!

yea your prob right. Guess im seeing if anyone has info on maybe one there selling to ya know? But mostly guideance. Yea i got a guy with the door im talking to the im seeing if he will sell just the guts but i need to know the gut with work in mine ya know?
My 03 is a SXT base model. It does not have the wiring for added options. The OEM windows are controlled by the Instrument Control Clustetr (ICC) which controls the power from the Intergrated Power Module (IPM).
I would say, if you really need power window/locks trade the truck for one that already has the options. I believe this would be a very expensive DIY project and I wouldn't attempt it without a donor truck standing by.
Based upon the power lock
switch input, the instrument cluster controls the battery
and ground feed outputs to the individual power
lock motors to lock or unlock the door latches. The
Light-Emitting Diode (LED) in the DDM power lock
switch is connected to battery current through the
power window circuit breaker in the Integrated
Power Module (IPM) on a fused ignition switch output
(run-acc) circuit so that the switch will be illuminated
whenever the ignition switch is in the On or

gonna have to put aftermarket actuators in. i do them all the time when i install remote starts and security. they are fun. i never add switches either just tell them to use the aftermarket system to controll it all. as far as the windows look into a spal unit they are the best.
WEll I guess if the wireing isn't there then I'll runn hot to a stock switch for the windows. Then run the switch to the lock or windows. Wireing isn't too big of a prob I guess but will the windows actucLly have the same room ans work on the same brakets or does everything change. I guess I need to know what I need from the donor I have standing by.

well you basically have 2 options
1. (easy) get an after market kit, remove the inside panel and place the window motor on the hand crank.
2. (harder/more time) remove all of the manual window track (try not to break the class) its hard because its inside the metal of the door, and replace with the doner truck run your own wires to the windows with switches and relays.
i did #1 on my Dakota last year it took about 4 hours for both doors
#2 is based on my Hayes manual
might be easier and cheaper to get the doner truck doors painted and try and figure out/redo the wiring
locks are really easy
i know its a civic but it basically all the same

lol yea im going with the red/green method. lol i love that guy. Ok so the guy says he has all the guts and is willing to sell. Im unsure what i need to get from him. Do i get wireing harness? tracks? etc
Well, how about a pair of doors, wiring harness, ICC and the IPM. Plug it all in and it will be same as original. The driver door contains the major switches. I hot wired my SLT Laramie seat without a problem. But doors locks and windows I think best be as close to original as possible. Good luck...
