Default New Dodge Ram owner!

Hello all!

I just got myself an 07 Dodge Ram Quad Cab, Big Horn, 5.7L Hemi a few weeks ago. Needless to say I love it! I am a bit curious about my gas mileage though. I am getting 9.3 in town and 13.2 highway under normal speed and empty.Though I did not buy this truck for its gas mileage, I would think it could do better, especially with the MDS. Does this sound correct? also any tips in general? Thanks

you're a bit on the low side, but i've gotten as bad as 9 in town. you just got it, so you're probably leaning into it pretty hard.

and welcome to DF

i would recommend that you start saving for the 16 sparks you have to buy for a tune up

Yeah, thats pretty low. It seems like a tune up is on order along with a TB clean.

Default look at my old spark plugs!

Changed plugs and this is what all the old plugs looked liked...notice burnt mark on porcelain...any ideas what would cause this or better question is this normal?Attachment 7803

To me it looks as though the previous owner ran a low grade fuel, probably 85 octane. These trucks require an 87 octane so that the plugs wont end up looking like that. It is pre detonation in my opinion. I can just imagine what those cylinder walls look like if the plugs are showing scorch marks like that. This is the big controversy with which grades people are using. I would change over to 87 octane and run some upper cylinder lubricant in there and all should be fine

THE 07 HEMIS are to use 89 oct. gas mileage will increase abot 1-1.5 mpg
