Default Front and rear diff oil change out thoughts?

I'm just thinking.
With the rain and cold temps outside at the monment here in the UK, my front and rear diff oil needs changing out.

Two methods can be used to do it.

The first, to do what I always do and remove the pumkins and go through all that RTV cleaning and bolt removing and re-torqing etc.

The second, to use one of those oil pump sucking/removal tools.

I know the first way you get to inspect the gears and what not but, I religously change my oils and have never found any problems in the front diff unit. I only got creamed once, when the stock LSD went out in the rear. I now have a DTT, so no more problems from that point of view.

Do I do a full diff pumkin removal job and inspect......or go for the easier simpler vaccuum oil removal job?

I suppose if I suck the oil out I can still inspect it's condition and if concerned pull the cover????
Hmmmmmmm :

Pull the cover and do it the right way is my opinion. But if you have an aftermarket LSD or no longer have CPRC's in the OEM LSD then I could see where just sucking it out would be ok.

In my opinion, I would just suck it out because it already sounds as though you do and will keep doing regular oil changes to the truck. I have some buddies of mine that have never changed out the diff fluids and they off road on a regular basis. None of them have ever had a problem............yet! Suck it out and save yourself the hassle. Again, if you were not religious on changing diff fluid I would then pull and inspect.

I know what you mean Weedahoe. I've always pulled the covers and this pump was cheap so I bought it.
It's just so bloody cold and miserable over here at the monment.
It's a driveway service as well.....no heated garage and that's what's pulling me towards the suck job lol.
I've just wimped out cos' of the weather lol.

id say suck it out, and examine the fluid after its out. if there is an alarming amount of cr@p in it pull the cover. if not, fill her back up and be done with it. the only reason i would suggest that is your case with the aftermarket lsd, and you just had that done not too long ago right? but if you havent pulled the cover since the lsd install, i would pull the cover.

I also say suck it out as long as you have had the cover off since the install.
