Default anyone know anything about remote starters?

My 2002 ram came with a 3rd party keyless entry. the dealer didn't say anything about it so i didn't even think twice about it until i noticed a warning sticker on the inside of the door frame that says some kind of warning about the fact that the vehicle has a remote control ignition starter installed. i looked under the wiring panel under the dash and sure enough, it appears to have remote start hardware installed. however, the remote looks like the same one most dodges come with, except the 3rd button says "option" instead of the alarm button. i have no idea where to start trying to figure out how to work the remote. i couldn't see any kind of brand label so i have no idea where to start. if this sounds familiar to anyone, any help would be appreciated.
thanks

see that's the problem... if i could find a brand name i would know where to start searching. heh... i looked on the reciever, the remote, all over the whole box under the dash. the remote looks exactly like the ones dodge and GM use... just without a logo. only 3 buttons, lock, unlock, and "option"

i could take pictures if you think that would help? :/

you need to remove the brain module so you can get replacement remotes. Otherwise, the starter function will cease to exist. Cannot use factory keys to make an aftermarket starter work.

OR you can go to a local reputable stereo shop where they install remote starters and have them replace that unit with a new one. You will get new remotes and a warranty, but it will cost around $150-200 for the basic starter. Adding an alarm combo on top of that isn't much more. Factory alarm isn't that great. Breaking the driverside plastic outer handle and unlocking the door turns off the alarm...lol What a great set-up Chrysler has.

sounds like its not worth fooling around with. would the fact that the brain unit is already installed, make it easier to install a new one with the existing wiring? or would i just have to start over completely

take a picture of the brain and remote and i might be able to help more. at my shop our basic remote start is $200 installed $250 with keyless thats for an avital(dei product) the higher end one is viper $280rs only and $330 keyless.
now if u already have one in there i pull everything out bypass and all so i have all new stuff in there and its not like i leave ur bypass it craps out and i say that will be $200 to replace the bypass. and if u get in there and find that the wiring is hacked to hell i charge anywhere from $20-50 to clean it all up and fix it. and my shop is the least expensive in town out the door.

He didn't say he needed a new one, from what I understand he just wants to know how to work the remote for the one he has.

What happens if you hit the "Option" button? Try holding it down for a few seconds. Try pressing it twice in a row, etc.

It is possible to use the factory keyless entry remote with an aftermarket starter, but the only time I've seen that done you had to press the lock button 2 times within a few seconds.
