3inch body and 2 or 3 inch Suspernsion
Ok so i think i split a couple of threads here. But im getting taxes back and im doin the 3inch body kit that comes with at. The only thing is i want to do a leveling kit for more height. LOL I'm 5ft 6 and gotta comp somewhere. So i hear about all these leveling kits for the front (2.5) and i know i can block the rear 3 inch or so. I guess what i need to figure is with getting the 3inch body kit what else is need to makeup for the rest? I gonna go ahead and say i deff need shocks but what else?

so youre saying that your doing a body lift, and along with the body lift you want to add coilspacers? and with that you want to know what else is needed? all you will need is 2" longer shocks if thats the case. often 2.5" is a little nose high, so you can add a 1" block to the rear for 4" in the rear and 5.5" up front. thats exactly what i had...now dont go looking for a decent ride, because a body lift with coil spacers is all but that. looks nice but doesnt ride nice.
just out of curiosity why would one not go smae raise all the way around? I mean 3 body, 2.5 spacer (cuz i can find 3) and 2.5 block =5.5 all the way. Just woundering. So the ride sucks after spacers and block?
yes the ride sucks after coil spacers and a body lift. if it didnt, everyone would be running that setup which is way cheaper than suspension. and the reason why you go higher up front instead of the same lift all the way around is to get rid of the rake and have the truck sit level. check out Nitto's truck, he has the same lift all the way around and looks killer...
Most people like to have a leveled truck instead of a truck thats a little nose heavy, that is why people throw on a leveling kit and maybe a small 1 inch block on the rear, I threw a 2.5 inch leveling kit on the front and a 1.5 inch add a leaf on the rear and have a slight, and I mean very slight rake, barely noticeable.
^^^^ Not sure I understand Weed why dointg a bod lift would make the suspension rough, especially if you got longer shocks?? WHt lifting does do is raise your center of gravity for a rolling truck. Like excessive body roll around turns sorta thing and floating a litle more on the highway, otherwise it should be same stifnnes as the shocks would provide.
If you've got 4wd, I would skip the front coil spacers and get yourself a pair of Bilstein Lift struts which give a lift of 2". Moe'sPerformance has them for $230 shipped. Also, Rancho make a lift strut kit that allows you to raise the front in .5" incriments from .5"-2.5". Both of those kits will provide lift AND are part of a new strut/shock. They also are much better on the suspension geometry than spacers are. The spacers that are sold create lots of angle of the front upper control arm so the balljoint gets maxed out. Using Bilstiens or Rancho's lift struts will reduce the extreme angle of the upper control arm.
A number of guys with 06-08's have expresed their problems with coil spacers and 4wd shimmy along with clunking (control arm hitting coil itself due to extreme angle)
To aid with some of the body roll, you can pick up a pair fo sway bars or just add a good one in the back and that should get you closer to stock ability around corners. if you have 2wd, those above won't work and lift spindles are your best bet.

Im going to have to respectfully disagree with that statement. i have ridden in many trucks with GOOD suspension lifts and ride much better than stock. it all depends on what lift you go with and components and materials are used. sure most of your cookie cutter lift kits will make the ride a little more harsh, but not all. unfortunatly the ones that dont....are more costly. a body lift will not constitute need longer shocks now i dont remember if the rear is affected but i dont know...but the front is not. since the shocks are not mounted to the body. a body lift doesnt really affect ride because its not doing anything to your suspension, but you will have body roll etc. along with a higher center of gravity.
