Question for those w/ subs
My setup is:
2 12" JL Audio W1's (yah cheaper subs, but its all i could afford when i bought them...plus i bought my amp for $25 bucks from a friend so these subs matched it the best)
Sealed Dual 12" box (Ordering the one that goes under the rear seats soon)
Phoenix Gold Xenon 400.1 Amp (pushing 200 watts into each sub even though they are 300 watt RMS each, need a better amp but it still makes those subs hit pretty hard)
I've used line out converter's before...but I'm thinking about an Aftermarket HU now...i just can't decide yet

will this HU do what i need? I only see the 3-band thing on the second one...so i'll probably get it cuz i dont think the first one has it. Does anyone have a double DIN HU? or should i just get a normal one?

i've always like JVC
1st one wont 2nd one will. just make sure it says subwoffer preout
also get a wiring harness (for plug and play to the truck end) it will make everything go much smoother
i'm not trying to me mean but with that kind of question are you sure you want to do it your self?

Yah, i'm not an idiot when in comes to installing/wiring, i just don't know how all the sound system stuff really works, i havent had time to really research it and i know more about mechanics than anything. i have some general knowledge from the shop who installed it last time...but i uninstalled it myself when i sold my car and everything looked quite simple..but then again i just used a line out converter to hook to my factory subs. where's a good place to get a harness?
also, everything is stll hooked together and ready to play, i just need a HU, thats really the only part ill have to do any wiring to. all i have to do is ground the amp and put the wires back to the subs, but thats simple...the HU is the part i've got little info about. If it proves to be too hard ill spend 120 and have the shop install it, but i might as well give it a shot and im cautious so i wont do anything wrong unless someone tells me wrong, ill find some diy's and follow those

cool i just don't want ya to blow up your new head unit!!
i usally get my wiring harness off ebay, there really cheap but i'm sure any auto store would have then, i have used Canadian tire but i don't think you have those in Dallas lol
something like this http://cgi.ebay.ca/Dodge-Ram-1500-20...#ht_1246wt_939
but you may need this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge...#ht_1940wt_939 check what stock radio you have
and you might need an antenna adapter not sure i did on my 05
its color coated and usually have writing on each wire as well to tell you what its for.
one other thing do you have a 4 speaker or 7 speaker stock system because with the 7 speaker system there are a few extra steps
basic 4 speaker stock system with 2 subs
(don't know how much you know so i'm gonna try and include everything)
DISCONNECT YOUR NEGITIVE BATTERY CABLE
if you get an after-market Headunit(HU), hook up the wiring harness to the one that came with the HU,
then you just have to run RCA cables and the "amp turn on" wire to the amp
finish up with the + to the battery with a fuse (take the fuse out first)
then the ground wire to the amp
plug the wiring harness in to the truck and the HU then the rca,
wire in your subs
put the fuse back in the + wire to your amp
reconnect the negative battery terminal and it should be up and running when you start up the truck.

sweet thanks, i have the 7 speaker system,3 tweets in the dash and one mid in each door. also, when i uninstalled my system, i just left everything conncted to the amp and disconnected the wires from everything else. do i need to unwire the amp or can i just keep it all plugged in and just rewire it to the subs/HU?

ya you can leave it hook up
7 speaker system is harder never done one but you have an amp somewhere, either under the steering wheel or passenger foot well, you need to find out what wire turns that amp on aswell the second wire harness i linked should work for that.
what letters are on your stock radio like Ref, Rec, Raq or Rak. i don't want to guide you to buy the wrong stuff

just found out my friend is mecp certified. hes gonna help w/ the install. gave me wiring harness, dash kit, alpine ixa w404 head unit (touchscreen), and is installing everything, all for $400. He might build me a custom box but thats gonna cost extra so ill use the one i have for now.
