Default Question for those w/ subs

I just got my Ram and am installing my 2 12" subs into it. I need a good crossover so i dont blow my factory speakers. What is a good, but not too expensive crossover? And i've never installed a crossover before, how difficult is it? any DIY's? Thanks guys

If you have a aftermarket headunit, just use the crossover thats built-in. If not, IDK. I havent used a separate crossover in years.

weedahoe is right, what is the full description of your system as it sits with the subs installed and what runs them.

If you have an aftermarket HU then you can set the parametric EQ to X-over above 80hz or even 100hz. That will eliminate any lower frequencies from being played through your factory speakers without the need for bass blockers because essentially it is the same thing.

Cool, good to know. I have the bass and treb that I can adjust. If I adjust the bass to that high will no bass come out of the subs too? I am a newb on most parts of stereos, just not the installs lol.

Most aftermarket HU's have a seperate filter for subs. Most have 3-band parametric eq's for front/rear highs as well as a seperate or subwoofers.

For setting up the highpass crossover for the small speakers, you want to set them at 80 or 100hz. That allows all frequencies ABOVE that to be played and heard and block everything below that point. Most 6.5's and 6x9's should not be set anything below 80hz generally speaking unless you have high end stuff where they can play that low.
Lowpass sub filters work opposite, by setting the sub to 63hz or 80hz you essentially allow the sub to play all tones Below that frequency and nothing higher.

The bass blockers are the final ruling of your speakers IF you have them installed. meaning that if they are preset for blocking anything under 100hz and you set your HU to 60hz, the speakers will only play above the 100hz and block the 60-99hz sent from the HU.
