Default third times a charm...

well after getting into an accident back in november, i've had my truck in the body shop twice since. first time was the initial body repair, and the second was because the paint didn't match. well last tuesday i had picked my rig up after having it painted. it looked so much better, but it still wasn't right. the doors that they painted seemed to not be as dark as the rest of the truck, didn't have as much metalic and had a flat gray hughe to it. that was the problem both the first time and second time. i was very unhappy about this so i brought it back up to the body shop and the guy told me that it is a very hard color to match and that there are alot of variations for it. he told me that he'll think of something or someway to match it and to call him this thursday. well, i went home and 5 minutes later he called me back asking me to bring the truck back up (litterally 2 miles away) so that a couple of the painters could look at it. when i got there, they were standing outside of the shop and one of them had a can of paint. he put a paint stick into the paint and then put it up next to the "good" paint on the truck. perfect match, i was very happy. so anyway, it goes in friday for the third time to get painted.

alot of the time this happins because they are using the brand new factory colour and the paint on your truck has already changed slightly from being out in the sun and weather

yeah, i realize there would be some fading to the paint, but it's only 2 years old and the shop owner said if wouldn't have faded much at all in that little amount of time.

Paint on a stick is different dried and cleared over.
Sounds like they didn't do any blending at all. Red and black are the two hardest colors to match. Blending is usually done to fade the variances of the 2 colors and make it less noticeable.
A newly painted fender bolted next to an old painted door is going to be noticeable no matter how close the color is. Blending the new paint into the old colored door is a must IMO.

Just remember, that everytime they paint your truck, it gets put in the oven and baked. That means that your plastic parts are going to be a bit more faded than when you first went in. The oven is like the sun on steroids for dulling out the plastic parts. hell, my black plastic parts are turning chalky already and my truck is only 2.5yrs old.

I could notice a drastic differnce with my wifes car when she had her fender painted 3 times. her wiper blades metal got very dull, her key holes have the black plastic and they got chalky, and her antenna we ended up replacing because it was like touhing a chalkboard with your fingers. gave me the heebiejeebie's....lol And her door trim was nice and shiny before and dull and chalky after... ALL from being baked a couple of times.

i'm sorry, i miss spoke. they did NOT blend, but it was an option. i have absolutely no fade on any of my plastic parts or wipers and they look as good as the day i bought the truck. the only thing the oven had effect on was my little metal yankees logo (yeah you read right, they'll go all the way again this year!) on my tailgate. this paint looks alot better than the other paint they had, i can't wait to see what it looks like dried and cleared. i'm sure they are going to make sure it matches alot better this time around, cuz they know now that i will bring it back if it's not corrected to my liking.
