Default 5.0L V8 Light Duty Diesel

Hey what do you guys think about a 5.0L V8 Light Duty Diesel engine for the Ram 1500. I personally don't know a whole lot about diesels but the huge torque and better gas mileage intrigues me. Nothings definate yet, but I hope they go through with it this time. Here's the link:

good find. I read about this in diesel power mag, they were saying we might be able to see some 1/2 tons w/ diesels by 2011/2012. I hope so! I want a diesel pretty bad but i just cant justify paying that much extra for a 2500 without the need for it.

Talk is cheap. I can't say it enough. This has been kicked around for a very long time. Word on the street was that Cummins was torqued enough to not want to deal with Chrysler AT ALL. Last I had heard from more than one excellent source, Mahindra was talking about taking over diesel productions for Chryat.

While I grant that diesel is our nations saving grace when it comes to fuel efficiency. Look at how many cars over in Europe are oil powered... Personally, I expect this talk to die down and disappear just as it has the last 4 or 5 times it surfaced. It's a great idea, and well needed, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

Here in the Philippines, at least half of the light duty vehicles are diesel and are clearly the prefered choice. also diesel fuel is is cheaper than gasoline.

I think it would be awesome but would probably be a 4-6 thousand dollar option. If I were going to by a Cummins it would be a 2500.

I would love a 1500 diesel. Lighter frame and lots of power!

I really hope they go back to a solid front axle if they go through with it.
