performance
hey guys i took my truck to the dealer to get the oil changed, when one of the mechanics told me if i wanted more performance, i should turn the ignition forward while the truck is on. i tried it but i dont know if there is or no difference. it is sopose to bypass some program he said.
im not sure of which engine it is, could be the 5.9, but it like doesnt allow the computer to read to speed your travellnig at so you can bypass the governer, but you also dont know how fast your going yourself
On the 04 you turn in back slightly when it's running. You can feel the detent. I've read it eliminates the speed and rev limiter. It does make the speedometer inoperative and the ABS light illuminate.
DonG.... hate to sound stupid but what and How do you turn back the ignition???? what is the procedure??
I have the same truck as yours04QC, hemi, and if I do this "ignition thing" what does it do for performance??
Hate to sound dumb, but these comptr. engines are totally alien to me.......
Appreciate your response ...........GUIDO

With the truck running. SLOWLY turn the key back (toward off). You will feel it stop at a detent. You probably turn it less than 1/8th of an inch. The truck will continue to run, but the spedo will drop-off. You will also get an ABS light and I think the radio quits also. I've done it a few times and could tell any difference on the butt dyno, but I've read where others have improved 1/4 mile times doing this. It supposedly gets rid of the speed and rpm limiter. I suspect this is what the mechanic in the original post was referring to.
I haven't tried turning it forward, but I suspect all that would do is grind the starter unless the computer locks it out when the engine is running.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I sure wouldn't want to hold the ignition in that position while driving down the road. Especially at any speed when you need to go past the rev limiter. For safety sake, opt for a programmer and just turn off the rev limiter.
