2005 4.7l issues HELP!
well here goes, while doing routine maint. yest. oil, rotation, and brakes found rust forming on my oil filter on the front of the motor at the head gasket drivers side, it was wet. also found oil leaking from what looked to be a seal above the harmonic balancer. when filiing the new oil found an unusual amount of milky sludge on the oil fill cap and the added strainer, plug. 66,800 mi. Thinking Head gasket? any comment would help thanks!
I had similar issue. What it ended up being was the front main seal and water pump was leaking. My harmonic balancer had also came loose some how. As for the milky sludge.....? I was wondering same thing.
Sometimes if you do short drives and the truck doesn't run for a while moisture can accumulate on the inside top of the filler cap. If you check the dipstick and it's got a milky consistency that's when you need to start worrying.
I'm thinking your front seal as well. Clean the motor real well and see where you find the oil coming out of exactly.

Its going to the stealer tomorrow. Wonder if it is covered under 7/70 powertrain? Noticed fuel mileage has dropped off a bit, went from 15 city to 12 city. Tune up just 15k ago. Also needs a front pass wheel bearing and hub, its makin noise but not horribly bad though. stealer says it is part of the braking system and is not covered. will be attempting it myself. are these common? Had a gen 2 dodge 2500 and never had any major probs. other than plenum gasket.
