Default Orange sludge

Can anyone tell me what this orange sludge around my oil cap is? I just noticed it when I changed the oil for the first time because I just bought the truck. It also smells like exhaust fumes.

Just that - sludge. Usually a result of short trips, with insufficient warm-up.

orange is the color of two things in an around the cyl, head.antifeeze and rust. neither is good outside near an engine opening. pull the valve cover if it's rusty sludge or sludge mixed with antifreeze. your gonna need engine work if none exists your one step better off. next look at your dipstick, don't laugh it should look like oil brown or black anything else and again your in for repairs.
no normal sludge is grey or blck and you can use a fork too scoop it up,.

Well I changed the oil and the oil was black. And then when I checked the stick after the oil change it was normal oil brown.

Well mine is pretty much bone stock so the truck is just a 2500 big horn. The oil pressure is fine.
