Default HELP! spark plug boot broke!!-solved!

yep, i was removing the coil packs from the driver side rear plugs when one of the boots tore apart. now it's broke off in the the head. i've been trying to get it out with a pair of needle nose, but it's coming out in pieces. i have removed the brake booster to give me more room, but i'm running out of ideas. can anyone help? i have a new pack to replace the bad one, i just have to get it out. otherwise, that cyl. may not get done. ever!

Probably the #7 cylinder no doubt. Make sure you use some Permatex on the new coil pack boot. How much of the boot is in there...where did it break off at on the coil pack?

If it's broken near the plug, using a small blow torch VERY carefully to help soften....not melt the rubber may work.

i'll try a hair dryer first. the boot broke off just below the coil pack. there's not much to grab on to. what a mess!

Then you prolly have another 3-3.5" of boot in there, just measured mine since they're all out right now. Hair dryer may get it to soften enough. Good luck...update us.

the hair dryer trick worked!! i had to slowly and gently twist while i was pulling, but all of the boot came out. future advice, don't try this if it's only 25 degrees out with a cold motor i just bought the truck, so i'm going to slather dialectic grease on the boots as i replace them. this is going to take me all day to finish. i thought my s-10 blazer was bad for plugs, sheesh!! thanks for the tip on the heat, i was getting really nervous!!

No problem, glad you got it cheezy66. Yep, make sure you get that permatex on the boots and anti-sieze for the plugs. 25 degrees? Yuck, 70 degrees here Although we had several inches of snow just a couple weeks ago.
