That is true, you wouldn't think the gov would allow that unless maybe the high flows don't have a CARB number. I will check them out next time I am under there and see if there is a number on them.

I dont think they have a carb number.

But the stock cats are actually a high flow cat and are not that restrictive. Even with my headers I kept the stock cats and just opened them up a bit and haven't thrown a CEL since they were put back in.

Has anyone ever flow tested the stockersto see what the actual numbers are? Just curious how much they flow compared to the high flows since I have never actually seen any data for the stock cats.

Here is how I did it.

- Buy Help part 42002 or 42009. *Either one will work just fine, the only difference is one comes with an indexing ring that you don’t need for this project.
- Take the O2 sensor off the truck.
- Take one of the non foulers and drill it out so that the O2 sensor can screw into it. *IIRC you will need to drill it out with a half inch bit.
- Screw the O2 sensor into the modified non fouler.
- Now take the stock non fouler and stuff it full of steel wool.
- Once it is stuffed take the modified non fouler with the O2 sensor in it and screw it into the stock non fouler.
- Take the whole assembly back to the truck and screw it into the bung.
- Reconnect the wiring.
- The CEL should not come back after you clear the code.

Right in the FAQ section, titled "how to eliminate CELs when removing cats":

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...ving-cats.html

and 'Teach, I've not seen the actual CFM numbers for stock (nor the Magnaflows either for that matter), but I've read on one of the more high performance forums that there is only about a 5% difference between the flow rates of a new stock cat vs. the Magnaflow Hi-Flows on a 3rd Gen Ram.

I have read the same thing before, I was just curious if anyone had any actual numbers for either of the cats. Seems like with all the talk about them I hve never seen any hard data for either one. I am going to keep searching and I will post up anything I find in terms of actual numbers for comparison.
