Pinion Bearing replacement
I am looking for any information as to where to find a step by step guide on how to replace my pinion bearings on my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 3.7L, I was going to replace the rear wheel bearings but once the thing was opened they were in good condition and noticed the noise came from the pinion bearings and I have never changed any pinion bearings before. I tried autozone.com but they have nothing on replaceing the pinion bearings so any information you may be able to prove would be greatly appreciated. Tnks for your time and help

It's a tough job since you will have to take the diff. apart to get the pinion out and put new bearing on it, then you have to set up your ring and pinion as close as possible to how it was. I'll PM you a link to the service manual but this job is best left to a qualified mechanic, either at the dealer or at a 4 wheel drive shop that does lots diff. work. How many miles are on the truck and what made you think it was a bad pinion bearing?
I had a friend who is a mechanic and he is the one that notice that the noice was from the front pinion bearing, he also adviced me to take it to a specialty shop since he would not be able to help for lack of experiance with this type of job and quoted me a repair bill of about $500. The truck has 102,000 and I would really appreciate the link for the manual if you have it, TNKS for your help
The link is in the private message I sent you, so check your inbox. It's a good idea to get a master install kit w/ new bearings and have them change all the bearings in the diff. while they're in there. You can get the master install kit for about $100, maybe a little more when you get it through the shop doing the work.
I have a 06 dodge 2500 diesel pick up. I recently detected a vibration in the drive shaft at about 30 to 35 mph. Changed all three of the universal joints but the vibration is still exist. How can I check to see if the pinion gear and/or the differential bearing is also bad.
Is your truck a 4x4? If it is try removing the front driveshaft and see if the vibration is gone. And also check the rear driveshaft and see if any weights have fallen off.
