Default hemi valve guide problems

sorry if i did this wrong, kinda new here but i have what sounds like a bottom end knock or someting making noise on the back side of my hemi. after taking it to a shop, they tell me that dodge put too large of valve guides in my heads. i find it hard to believe that the noise would travel clear down and sound so specific at the lower back of the motor. if is definately the case, would anyone have any knowledge on it? ie.. if i have to pull the motor, or any trick to getting the heads off. thanks in advance

Welcome to DF.
The shop is correct, the specified clearance was allowed to be excessive causing most hemi's to have the tap or ticking noise. Mine too is louder under the front of the driver door and in the fenderwells rather than up top with the hood open.
My ticking started at 400 miles and I wasn't too pleased because it is rather loud, but I'd rather deal with it than go pulling apart a brand new motor. The biggest issue I see long term is the ticking to gradually get louder and the valve surfaces start to wear which would result in puffing blue smoke. When that starts to happen, then I'll tear down. You need to take everything off the top and front of the motor so you can pull both heads off and work on them or send them to a shop.

ya im worried about the valve seats being worn and then having more extensive head work done. i can get the seats done for around $350 now, but pulling the motor doesnt sound fun to me. i dont think i can get the heads off without pulling the motor because of the brake booster and the motor being under the fire wall.

you can definitely get the heads off without pulling the motor. You'll need an 8mm wrench back there because a socket wont fit to get the valve covers off, then you've got plenty of room to pull the heads
