it was the old magnum engine, i believe they stopped using it in rams in 02. what else are you lookin for? it gets poor mileage and doesnt have much horsepower/displacement ratio really to speak of. they can be built for some good torque though. i used to have one.....

They made a few into 03, but those are really hard to find. I dont get any worse gas mileage in my 5.9 than I bet you do in your hemi... Yeah, I have a little less power, but for a motor that is truly bulletproof I think its worth it.

Yeah, but the plenum gasket isn't across the board on all of them, just most of them, and its a very easy fix! A lot less than many motors that are this big normally have.

And because many people don't think much of the 5.9 over the newer motors even though it is still a good motor, it is an easy one to grab for a steal of a deal.

I agree. I have this motor and love it..Yeah I might get a little less mileage or the same as the Hemi but my mechanic has said our motors are easier to work on then the Hemi but then again he is an old school mechanic..lol..Also a Hemi may Blow me out of the water but it's actually pretty neat to have a motor that very few have on here in the 3rd Gen Rams

Great motor, it is a magnum, it does not have the hp of the hemi, BUT it is half the work when it comes time for a tune up LOL.

Also, with some minor MODS you can really wake the motor up and get it to perform nicely! To answer your question, 245 hp from the factory on an 02 5.9. add a superchips tuner and you can add about 46 rwhp per superchips website. plus a CAI and better flowing exhaust and that engine will scream!
