Im with beacherr on this one, I was into my rock lights on my old rig for 30$ canadian! Just go buy some cheap 15$ offroad lights, i use the same ones attached to my trailer hitch and they turn on when I put it in reverse for extra light.. I used to just have them hooked to a switch on the old truck for when I was 4x4ing at night but I really like your idea beacherr to have them hooked up to the keyfob.. how did you wire them? Im thinkin about puttin a set on the dodge now for this purpose, either wire them to the unlock or just wire them to come on when the doors open..

post #4 has the pics of what wire i tapped into. its the cargo light wire.

in order for them to come one when you open a door you would have to wire them into the intieror lighting in that case they would come on when your driving if turn on the interior lights .

it would be easier to buy some magnetic switches and install them on the doors. but i like the light on before i get to the truck because of all the stories about people hiding under vehicles to rob people getting in there cars.

Ok cool I just looked at the pic where you actually mounted the lights, i didnt look at the wiring in detail, Ill go check it out. I was thinking to wire it into the door switch cause then they would only come on when the door was actually open.. Im pretty sure atleast.. But then come to think about it, only when the drivers door is open so then they are useless if passengers are getting in and out. so in that case it would be good wire to interior lights instead so if any door opens they turn on, i like th idea of that better, except the fact they will come on if im driving and turn on my interior light, which doenst happen often enough to really bother me.. Deffinitely have to think about it in more detail tomorrow and go grab some lights.. I might end up doing it your way because of the chances of people under the truck like you stated, i never thought about that before.

What do you think about this idea, what if i split the wire coming off the switch on the relay into 3, send 1 to the dome light for it to come on with opened doors, 1 to the keyfob for when I unlock, and 1 to a switch inside the cab to manually turn them on for wheeling in the dark?? or is that a no no because then 1 wire would energize and send power into the other circuits?

you can do that but couple problems can and will pop up. first you need diodes on each line so current wont backfeed into the others and blow fuses or damage things.
2nd. on my buddys 03 the wiring is different. its all negatived grounded. so tapping into the positive will cause them to be on all the time. you have to tap the positive and the negative on each circuit if thats hows its wired for it to work right. im not sure how the interior lights are wired on the 06+

Hmm, thats what I was thinkin reguarding the diodes but i didnt know for sure what they were called.. Im just gonna keep it simple and go to the interior light.. actually thinking of that, i think my interior light comes on when I unlock my truck.. and when i wanna wheel in the dark ill just have to open the windo and turn on the interior lights if i want the rock lights.. Thats for the help, I was itchin to do something to the truck the past couple days..

I picked up a set of these LED rock lights from visionxstore.com, it was great because I used the coupon and got a discount, then he sent me another coupon to use anytime i want and to give to my friends, so what the hell, use code "repeat" and you'll get 10% off and free shipping.

You gotta read this forum http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=817058
This is what convinced me, they hardly use any power, like 16watts total, pretty simple plug and play, going into cigarette lighter. Those halogen driving/fog lights are very bright, but they can break very easy from rocks, and they draw a lot of power. Just my $.02

the ones on my ZR2 lasted 3 years of hard wheeling and crawling and i never once busted or blew a bulb

same with my truck. ive got chips on the housings from rocks being thrown from the tires but have yet to break anything on them. even had them submerged before and still great.

but of coarse im not worried about the power usage. ive got almost 900w of light coming from my front end if I flip the switches.

Hey all that have these lights is the housing made of plastic or are they made out of metal?

I'm looking into getting some, just not sure if I want the white, blue or a combo of the two. Love the color of my truck, deep molten red, but it is kinda hard to match up colors to it. Definatly doing the key fob door opening set up that is way cool.
