pulling 8000 lbs

I don't suspect he wanted to tow 8000 pounds, More likely the opportunity came up to make things a little easier on himself if he was able to use his truck he has to tow the load.
An old farmer told me a long time ago, if you have a big wagon to pull, you hitch it to a horse, not a dog. But sometimes necessity prevails.

I'm towing over 8k lbs about 3 months from now...proly up to about 8100 lbs. After reading the manual, it said that you have to have 10-15% of your load on your hitch. It also says that you must have a WD hitch for anything over 350 lbs on your hitch. Since your gonna have 800 lbs on your hitch, you def NEED a WD hitch. I will be buying on in the near future as well and I will also be putting rear air bags on too. If your hitch is factory then you also have all the other coolers in front of your radiator that you NEED as well like I do. Also, make sure to get a good brake controller. Install is a snap since there is already a plug under the dash.

So, I go to the Denver RV show and buy a 7K lbs trailer, Later, I decide to upgrade my TV and decide on the badest boy on the block, a 1500 Hemi - 5.7 - 3.92. Then, I start reading these forums and it's like I bought a Datsun pickup. Nothing but... you can't tow that much weight with a 1/2 ton, you need a 3/4 - one ton, buy air bags/tranny cooler/super chip/. WELL WHAT THE WHAT??? I towed the trailer and believe it or not, it did fine. 65 mph up and down the hills. Yes, your 1500 can tow 8,000 lbs. Just do it safely.
