I lock mine in place by jamming a screwdriver through the waterpump pulley holes against the waterpump, place a 14" cresent wrench on the fan nut and hit it couterclock-wise with a hammer to break loose
That sounds about right because I used a small shafted screw driver. You just gotta man handle it bro.
I removed mine yesterday and yes it wasn't easy. I read how Weed used the screw driver wedged on the water pump. Frankly I was a little afraid of doing this as the pump housing is aluiminum and my luck is I'd break it. So I use a bolt that fit the holes pretty good and with a two foot pry bar struck between the bolt and center nut I was able to get enough leverage to loosen it up. Make a good setup and you'll have the leverage needed to break it loose. Good luck...
Being you are in VA where there is snow and salt. Do you think that has anything to do with it.
Not really, my truck doesn't get run much during the winter. I live in the Philippines from October thru March. But my truck is an 2003 and that was the only time the clutch fan had been removed. Plus it is a little difficult to get proper leverage. However using the proper tool or a good solid setup I think it comes off with reasonable force. I finally used a 24" adjustable and a 24" bar so I had pretty good leverage.

Whatabout the snow & salt up here in North Ga weed? lol (Look at all that damn salt on my truck) and that was only the 1st and smallest of 4 snowfalls this year.
I am going to try and tackle the E fan install this weekend and I can say that this thread has been the most helpful in piecing the info together. Every thread I have seen has just been "take of clutch fan"... I was like.... but how? lol.
