Default Brake controller wiring

I got this 7pin wiring harness installed on my Ram over the weekend:

https://www.dodgeparts.com/catalog/p...d37e797bab702d

It has a blue wire run into the cab at the end of the install. Anyway, I'm borrowing a buddies brake controller (a Drawtite Activator II), and he has a 4pin square plug wiring harness on it for his F150. The four wires coming out of the controller before the wiring harness are: "To trailer electric brakes", "stop lamp", "Feed wire from battery", and "ground". I'm guessing the blue wire from my wiring harness is for the first wire ("electric brakes" one), and obviously the ground is for a ground.

I'm woundering, though, where I can get a power wire from (I'm guessing not straight from the battery), and what the "stop lamp" wire would be for. Any idea where I can get that wire from? Thanks for any help...

The battery is the best place to get your 12v, also best place to ground, just don't forget to use a 20-30 amp fuse or auto reset breaker in the hot wire.

I saw another sticker on there after posting to run the power right to the battery, not any fuses. Same with the ground. So I have three of the wires ready, but what about that "stop lamp" wire? I'd assume thats what tells the controller unit I'm actually braking... but what should I tap off of for that? Thanks.

That comes off the cold side of your brake light switch(the one that gets power when the pedal is depressed), and I would defenitly use a breaker or fuse!!

Installation Instruction for that controller can be found below. They include a nice wiring diagram.

I need one for my truck (7 pin). Does it fit in the stock location and how hard was it to wire up? Can you post a pic? Thanks

Since my truck has the tow package, it came with the 7 pin connector at the bumper area. It also came with a bag with the wring in it to hook up the trailering brake system. Question: Do you know if the only missing parts to have the Braking system is the activator?

I just installed a Valley unit the other night. If you have the 4 wire plug that comes with the tow package then yes the activator is all you need.
