They said once you turn the key and all the dashboard lights (light up) the check engine light does not come on...this is a failure in VA. I bought this truck used and there could have been some shady person who busted this LED out.... Does anyone know what mfg part number this LED is? I have alot of eletrical engineers at my work and I was going to have one of them look at it. It doesnt make any sense....If someone was able to bust the LED so it doesnt work...I would hope I should be able to fix it. 1 LED shouldnt cost me 700+ dollars.....
Virgina? I live in South Central Virginia and I don't think anyone has ever checked my dash for lights. Before you get all carried away, I'd take to another shop and have the inspection done again. Chances are it won't be an issue. Besides we all need to have friends who can do inspections. Ask around at work with the boys running modified rides. They will know someone who can inspect it. This is not a problem...

I decided to pull the cluster out myself and take a look at it. I found out there was a piece of cardboard covering the check engine light...shady *** used car dealership.... I went back to the mechanic and gave him a piece of mind too who was going to replace entire cluster..but atleas I now know why it wasnt "working" I am going to take to a mechanic my family trust to get the code and see why its on....thanks for all your help...this website is great for guys who dont know to much about trucks but need to know about there own vehicle...thanks again

I guarantee you that if you have emissions testing, they check the light. You may not notice them do it, but they do.

That is pathetic on either the dealership or previous owner (whoever put it there)...if you could prove that the dealership put that there you could definetly see some cash coming your way!

They only do the emission testing in northern Virginia. With our clean living here in the south we don't need it.

I took the truck to Adnaved auto parts and hooked up the diagnostic test. The code # P1491....I ran a search on this site and found it to be a blown fuse (#39) and sure enough thats exactly what it was...the check engine light is now not coming on....so its all good...this site saved me atleast 300 bucks,..thanks to everyone
