Purchasing truck, Known problems? (08 1500, Big Horn)
Hey guys, i'm a new guy on this forum and wanted to run some questions by you guys. I just sold my previous truck and am in the process of purchasing a 2008 Ram 1500 Big Horn. I just wanted to know if there are any known problems or recalls on this truck. I had a jeep and it had a brake problem were the rotors constantly warped. Anything along the lines of that with these trucks? I've heard only good things about them but hope you guys can give me some opinions.
Thanks
Thanks
the only issue i have is with my drivers door. It keeps springing and is very loud on the highway, its been fixed 3 times in a year. Oh and the battery doesnt have enough juice when its very cold out
I got an '08. Tie rods were toast at 25k miles. I'm at 31k now and I've got idle problems (the rpms will drop to like 400 and seem like its going to stall then it goes back up to 650). Stock shocks are junk (most cars are) so replace them with bilsteins for a better ride.
What's the "c-clip" issue, does it break and your tire starts walking its way out of the axle?
WELCOME TO DF.
technically it's NOT the C-clip, they are retainer clips. They just look similar.
Retainer clips hold the clutch packs of the carrier in place and eliminate any motion form torque. Your axles will still be hled in place by the axle c-clips.
This is only a problem for LSD rear-ends. Although newer model years can have this failure, the majrity of the problem was in the 2002-2005. In the later part of 2005 is when the revised stronger retaining clips were used reducing the problem. So, from later 2005-current, those trucks are using upgraded hardware, BUT it can still fail, just at a MUCH lower rate.
I have an '08. the battery is plenty strong. if there is a problem in the cold, then i suggest getting a new battery because that is a clear cut sign of cells not holding a charge. My truck has the towing package so i do have an upgraded battery, but in no way is it too weak. it's a 1000CA 750CCA for crying out loud. Ohh, and has an outstanding reserve capacity of 150min. I actually had a hard time finding a better battery out there.
There have been some door sealing issue's, but that's a minor problem.
If it's the Hemi, you'll likely get the "Hemi tick". Mine started at just 400miles. Sounds like lifter noise. it's not. Many guys have this problem. it's something Chrysler has known about but has made little effort to fix the problem.
Other than that, I've got almost 8kmi on my truck and have had zero troubles.
