First of all, Is your mechanic a trusted mechanic? because I believe the Governor Pressure Solenoid is a dealer part only, ranging upwards of 125$.

After looking at it, I realized this is a much more complex fix then what my case was. You see, I had a truck with the 42RE transmission which is in the same family as the 46RE(what you have), but it turns out that the way the valve body is mounted is different. Therefore, most advice I could give would be trivial.

I do have a full service manual that if you want I could email to you. It has step-by-step instructions along with pictures to aid you. It shouldn't be hard to do, but it is more than I can explain.

By the way, while your down here I would recommend putting in a new filter and gasket. You can get them both cheap at your local auto parts store.

I believe the stock gasket is made of a cork like material so you will have to scrape all of that off of the pan before putting it back up.

In the pan itself will be a magnet designed to catch metal shavings. Clear this off too, and hopefully your whole tranny isn't stuck to it lol.

3rd to 4th would involve overdrive so I wouldn't jump so far to say its the governor pressure solenoid. Overdrive has its own solenoid. What's the code reader say? It normally narrows it down to the specific sensor / solenoid. The governor pressure solonoid costs 50 bucks on this site. They basically got ever part for every dodge tranny.

After looking at the diagnosis section (page 307) it would be the overdrive solenoid and not the Governer Pressure, causing your problem.

Start on page 318 with romoving the valve body from the tranny, and then on page 322 it shows you how to start taking it apart to get the OD solenoid out.

Gonna be alot more work than what I though.. good luck tho man
