Question Coolant flush 2005 ram 1500

I am about to give my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 a coolant flush. I have never done this before. I understand mostly how it works and am more than capable of doing it, only for one thing. I purchased a gallon of the 5/100 Mopar and it was pretty pricey. I am in understanding that it needs to be in a 50/50 water coolant mixture. The manual says 17 Quarts are needed. Does this mean after I have flushed the system clean with water I then pump 8.5 Quarts into it or should I pre mix 8.5 Quarts and then fill? 17 Quarts sure sounds like alot, do I have this info right?

Its hard to drain all the antifreeze out of the block and heater core.. So it will be a lot less than what's recommended.. I mix it before it goes in, not sure if that's the right way, but I've never had issues.. Someone else might chime in
