Default Automatic gear shift question

Hello, new to the forum. Y'all have alot of stuff here. Tried searching but couldn't find anything close.

Here's my problem, I have a 2008 Dodge Ram 4.7 V8. When I go to put it into gear it acts like it has a lock out feature on it. Basically when I go to put it into gear I have to pull the handle back and release it then it goes into any gear I want. It makes a clicking sound and it only does it when I start my vehicle from what I can tell. Is it a security feature??

So when is the last time you have driving any newer car? Dont they all have that now-a-days? Glad you figured it out though.

3 of our Chevy service vehicles have had trouble with the shift/brake "safety" feature.
the dealerships can't reliably reproduce the problem in the shops - so we have the fuses for this feature pulled.

Dodge had a recall on these lockout mechanisms back in the early 2000's, not sure if it went all the way till 2008 or not. Got a service card for my 2002. I can't find the card now, think I threw it out a couple days ago.

Been a long time, last car was a 99. Although I drove my dads truck from time to time. But never noticed the peddle thing
