i see alot of homemade cai on here and i was just wondering what do you guys do with the hose coming off the oil fill cap heres a pic of what im talking about.

That's the tranny breather. A lot of guys just buy a small cone filter for it at the auto parts store, they actually make 'em for tubes that small.

Some say that line needs to pull vacuum, but I've never seen any documentation to that effect. If you want to play it safe and pull vacuum, then drill a hole slightly smaller than the tube and squeeze it into your CAI. I little silicone should then seal it up nice...

Tranny? I thought that was a crank case vent, doesn't it open up into the engine oil fill tube?

yep, I stand corrected. I did play golf today and have had about a dozen brewskies, but that ain't an excuse, I always thought it was a breather line to the tranny. Thought I saw a diagram or read it somewhere.

You may be right for certain applications. This is a pic from a CAI thread. Look right behind the small filter, does that not look like a T that runs back to the tranny?? Maybe they share a vent on some trucks. I think this is on a Dakota.
