Question 2005 1500 4x4 TRANSMISSION

I was wondering? If the transmission from this truck is a 45RFE, is there a difference between one for a 4x4 vs one from a 4x2? What's the difference? The mounts or some add-on piece or what? Does anyone know the mopar numbers for either? Thanks to any for future advice on this.

No difference between a 2wd and a 4x4 auto transmission. 4x4 has a transfer box and a front diff.
I believe you have a 545RFE auto.

As for hoss67 comments. Yes, these 545RFE auto trannys do have a somewhat poor reputataion. The 2nd prime problem and the sacrificial losses I've read 22-25% the trany has, are just two.
I've not heard anything bad about the manuals so I guess that says it all.

pretty sure there is a difference in the 2wd and 4x4. the 4x2 will have a tailshaft as the 4x4 will not. Adding a longer output shaft for the 4x2.
there is an identification decal on the left side of your trans right above the front side of the pan

^^ Yeah kinds confusing. I think what he means, is that the dodge tranny's have a somewhat bad reputation for having problems. That, coupled with the 22-25% drivetrain loss, doesn't give Ram owners a whole lot of enthuiasm when it comes to our transmissions. : /

Almost every week I consider trading in my Ram for a Nissan Titan. They have about half as much drivetrain loss as the Rams and their engine that creates 318 hp at the crank creates about 260 at the wheels compared to the Ram's ~345/245. I have no allegiance to a certain company and if Dodge doesn't want to get their **** together and start making quality transmissions/rear ends then I won't buy anymore of their products. </thread hijack>

the trannys in the 2wd and the 4x4 are identical, its just the tailpiece/adapter thats slapped on there that is different.

I did my TC this past weekend and after I Removed the GenIII 4x4 Transfer Case and short Drive-shaft in a one-er I was down to those identical Bones you described OlDirty. BTW (Although I did not need to refer to them once I got rolling) a big thanks to you for those DIY photos. I had them on my Lap-Top as standby!
