I voted no change as it's still like new. I think you'd be throwing your money away.
What I would reccomend is bringing an extra quart of 5w-20 with you incase you find that your burning some.
That's what I been thinking about, just bring a few extra qts just in case. Any issues, I can always swing into dealer, etc.

That's a invitation for disaster.

Enjoy the west coast! If you're really paranoid about it, change it before and after. Otherwise I'd just wait till you get back. Feed the truck some fresh oil after the trip and call it good.

Just made a similar trip from Louisiana to the Oregon coast in my wifes 300c, and by wife's I mean my 300c , same 5.7 engine. Didn't do any towing obviously but I did have the cruise set at 90-100mph on I-10. We had 6500 miles on the oil change (mobile 1) when I got home. When I drained it it still looked fine. I'm like Weed, still normally change at 3000 even though I have gone to synthetic so it was bothering me but after seeing the oil it was no problem at all. I think I'll move the car's schedule to 5000 but keep the truck at 3000, bass boat towing, stop and go milage, etc.

Yes, please do and let's recap. Syn oil change done 1800 miles ago, so roughly 4200 miles left until change interval. Trip is 4400 miles and I added 1k for fudge factor. Your saying I'm asking for trouble if I go over by 1K while running syn oil.

I'm talking about not going over the 6K manufacturer recommendation
while the vehicle is still under warranty. If something engine related goes
wrong some say they can void the warranty and blame improper maintenance.
I could be wrong, just something I've heard. You said you have 1800 miles on
it and want to follow with a 5500 mile trip = 7300 miles. The oil will do fine though,
I always go that much or more on synthetic.
