Default new dremel. ported tb questions

what did you use to port your own tb? sandpaper or a grinding bit?
its best to leave the area around the tb plate untouched too right?
and i also read up on "knife edging" the tb plate, why / why shouldnt i do this?

any other nidbits of info would be great.

Dude when people say ported they have it sent out for someone to do it professionally. You could do it with a dremel but it sure as chit will not be precise.

i know most people send it out or just buy a fastman tb, but i got thought hey why not? cool new tool what can i do to the truck with it? i know there is a chance i could **** it up, if that's the chase i'll just buy the fastman tb.
can sandpaper actually **** it up THAT bad? and even if it's not percise, will it not work?

i don't mean to sound like an ***, they're actually legit questions lol.

No I'm glad your asking its just that if you eff it up then you are out a core to send fastman as well. Its pretty precise and not only that you need to make a bigger throttle blade otherwise you will have a huge gap around the entire butterfly if you know what I mean.

i wasn't gonna sand around the TB plate so there wouldn't be a huge gap around it, but thinking about it more now that would probably defeat the purpose of it all.

Well if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to fastman, you can check this guy out and the thread.

Hell, he may give you some tips or pointers on how you may do it yourself. His username is bwdakrt. Could always PM him and see what he says about it. He doesnt do the 5.7s but he does 4.7s so he'll be a good resource for you.

Yeah the smallest diameter is still the smallest diameter. So unless you do the whole thing you are right no benefit.

I ported my own TB out with my Dremel and carbide bits. I went from the front to the back with 85mm and did not taper mine up to the butterfly plate. This means my plate is too small now but ive got some aluminum and SS sheets at work i can cut and make another plate. After I ported mine with the carbide bits, I used a saning drum to smooth everything out and I just picked up some polishing bits and compound so I can polish it down really smooth.

it is easier to send out to be ported but it can be done with a Dremel and patients
