Dealer Prices
Just a little rant about dealers.
My check engine light came on and I ran the code and the EGR valve came back.
I called 2 seperate dealers for a quote.
The first dealer I called stated they would charge me $120 to "read" the code and then if it was infact the EGR valve it would cost me $180 for parts and labor.
The second dealer I called stated the repair would cost me $140 for parts and labor. I questioned the price and indicated I could buy the valve for $42 (including tax). I was informed by the woman on the other line that her cost for the part is ~$80.
Why are dealers such a ripoff?
Anyway, I purchased the EGR valve from AutoZone and replaced it in ~20 minutes. That 20 minutes included me sorting through my sockets trying to find a long 8 mm and a long 10 mm socket.
What a joke.
Truck now runs perfect and my MPG went from ~14 to 21. Hopefully that 21 MPG sticks around.

The overhead console is wrong. The dealers truly are thieves. Glad you got it worked out. Replacing one on the hemi is so easy, ridiculous what people charge. Not sure what engine you have, but I barely get 14, so lol that MPG really isnt all that bad.
I have a 2006 4x4 1500 with the 5.7 and 20s.
My identical 2003 averaged about 12 MPG.
My 2006 (according to the overhead) has averaged 13 for the past couple years.
After changing the EGR the overhead is staying consistant at 21. I am going to do a proper tank measurement next fill-up.
The best I have ever recorded with this truck is 22 MPG towing 8000 lbs going 55 the whole way on the highway. This was through 2 tanks of gas.
I will keep my fingers crossed!

My check engine light came on and was throwing an EGR code.
It would studder and it shut itself down twice while driving.
Supposedly it is an issue on our trucks for going out pre-maturely.

I stopped at the dealer in Norfolk and asked for price and availability of a Ram 2500 trans cooler. Was told $256 and it would have to be ordered. What a joke... Online it is available for $148 plus $16 shipping. Farmville dealer charged $75 to recalabrate a friend's Ram 1500 speedo. We are all driving $1,000,000 part bins, at least according to the dealer.
It is more than just the parts too.
Schamburg wanted $120 to diagnose the problem with the reader.
So in essence, they wanted $300 to replace my EGR valve that cost me $42 and 20 minutes of my time...okay 30 minutes of my time if you include me purchasing the part.
