IMO, I never had any success with an orbital. I was taught with a high speed, and once you get the hang of a high speed it is hard to get use to the orbital. Again like anything else there are people that can use orbital and think it is the cats meow, not my thing!

The thing you need to be careful with is anything that is mechanical will scratch paint if you are not familiar with it!

Thumbs up I'm a big Meguiars fan

Have a look all through their site:

http://www.meguiars.com

Do the RxPlus questionaire and it'll give you detailed product info and instructions on how to go about it.

Think of the whole process as a multi-step procedure to the perfect shine.
  • wash the vehicle - use a "car wash" as dish soap is to harsh.
  • dry the vehicle - use your favorite item here - Sham-Wow ???
  • spot treat any nasty areas - clay bars, ScratchX
  • scrub the body surface - Cleaner Wax, Body Scrub
  • finally, polish the surface - Gold Class or NXT Tech Wax
Take the time to learn about the contaminants that affect a vehicle's paint and how to treat the issues caused by the contaminants. Remove the contaminants before the polish. It's the secret to that deep shine that makes the piant pop.

I've been doing the ol' car thing for lotsa years and met "Big John" at the Meguiar's truck at a car show in Carlisle, PA about ten years ago. Wealth of information that guy. I bought one of their Porter/Cable polisher kits that are only sold on the truck. I used it and their products on my '62 Plymouth and it made a tired old red paint job come to life. Made me fall in love with the car all over again. I still got the polisher but the car is gone. The Ram is gonna get it soon.

Also, keep your expectations realistic. If you need a paint job, a spit and polish ain't gonna do the trick.

I have a liner, but its not over the rail...I should have gotten it over the rail, as my rails are scratched to hell

Don't quote me but I've found when I debadged my old s10 I used Goo Gone and it did an amazing job on taking the adhesive off from the badges...The stuff was pretty cheap too..
