Exhaust Options

Exhaust Options
These are the options I've come up with so far.
Option 1: Paint my existing tips black. Not sure how well that would hold up with the heat and rocks kicking up from the tires.
Option 2: Replace my tips with these. $32 each, plus price of welding.
Option 3: Cut off my existing tips and put turn downs on. The pipes on my existing system are level, just the tips are welded on at a downward angle. So, I could easily cut the tips off and clamp on some turn downs.

Yeah, that's what I was kinda thinkin. Paint them, then if they don't turn out right, or chip real bad, I'll cut them off and put the turn downs on. Why would it be louder?
I'm not talking about dumping it right at the muffler, just cutting the tips off and putting the turn downs back there.

Well I was thinking you were going to move the turn down up stream some and behind the axle. Doing so means the overall pipe would be shorter and there fore louder. Also with them pointing to the ground would make them more loud. But if you put them where the current tips are then I dont think it will be more loud. Would you point them to the ground or out the side?

Depending on how close your exhaust system is to the ground, if you point the turndowns at the ground, you might hear the sound of the exhaust hitting the ground (more of an air moving sound than a deep mellow tone) and I found that it stirs up dust as well. This was the case in my old Dakota. I was towing a heavy trailer camping and the rear end would squat. While stopped on a dirt road, the turndowns would kick up dust off of the road and start to surround the cab. Something to think about. May not be an issues because your Ram's ride height is much higher than a stock 2 wheel drive Dakota.
