The bolts securing the exhaust manifolds (maybe you would know it as the stock "header"?) to the heads. if I had a pic of it i'd post it up, but I am at work at the moment.

Yep, an exhaust leak can make a ticking noise. The ones I've heard vary more with rpm and have a higher pitch. It's been a while, though, since I've heard that sound.
