Just to recap here, if you think your oil is getting dirty to quick. Do a quicky filter change with a quality filter. I think your oil looked fine.

This has been a long running topic on here and other forums. It's widely assumed that you run 5w/30 in non-MDS Hemis and 5w/20 in MDS equipped ones. But the recommended viscosity change from Chrysler took place between the '04 & '05 models and the '05 is NOT MDS.

My book says to run 5w/30 and other than one oil change when my auto parts store threw Royal Purple 5w/20 on sale at buy one get one free (dunno why they did this and only did it with this one grade, but I wasn't gonna argue at the cost of that stuff) I've always run the 5w/30.

I wasn't aware that the '03s spec'd 10w/30?

I would run 5w/30 though if given the choice...

I was in Oreilly's today and asked what their computer said oil wise for my truck and it was 10w30. So 5w30 is what I should be using?

I bought my 03 new and started using M1 from the frist oil change. I change the oil /filter every 6000 miles and use 5-30. No hemi tick and the oil comes out looking good. I have a couple over heat stories that absolutely convinced me that M1 is the only oil for me, including my son inlaw running my 16hp lawn mower last year without oil and I filled it back up and it is still running. M1, good stuff.

I run Royal Purple (because i like to overpay for stuff that isnt worth the additional cost) with a Wix Filter (beause where I shop I only got two choices...wix and fram). I use 5w-30 and change it every 6 months (which is around 3k miles or less lol)

Do synthetics have a time frame? I've never heard for sure so i go with 6 months to be sure. I know conventional starts to break down after 3 months which is why they say 3k/3 months whichever comes first.
