Default 2006 Mega Cab 1500 "death wobble"?

Hi all,

I'm new today and have serious problem. I bought a 2006 Mega Cab 1500 3 weeks ago and when coming home the first day i hit a small bump in the road and the truck shuddered for a few seconds then stopped. I didn't think much of it and had the tires all rebalanced the next day and never really had it out on the highway at any speed. Friday I was traveling taking my travel trailer in for some work that wa approx 250kms nothing happened. I dropped the trailer and continued on while doing about 110kms on the highway i went over a highway bridge and when I came off the other side the trauck went into this uncontrollable shakeing and wobbleing? Did it 2 other times and only while above 100km's an hour. I had dodge replace the stub axel u-joints and then they also replaced the trac-bar. Seemed ok but then did it again on the way home, they put a 2" leveling kit in the front just before I bought it and it has 315-70-17" bfg all terains on it. I spent alot of time on the internet reading about this "death wobble" what can I do to fix this problem? A buddy of mine had an 05 and he was fine untill he put a leveling kit in it then he too had the wobble. Can you keep the kit and extend shocks and balljoints etc.... or should I tell them to take the leveling kit out? ANy help would be great.

If you replaced the track bar ready try the ball joints. The leveling kit will pull the axle back a little bit but nothing too crazy and it normally doesn't throughthings out of whack. So I would suggest your ball joints and then the track bar, but swing as you have already replaced that you may want to look into an adjustable trackbar. I'm not sure if the 1500 mega cab has a difference from the 2500s but you may want to call Don at www.thurenfabrication.com awesome guy to wok with ane his customer service is incredible!

Yes I read about the adjustable trac bar and also adjustable ball joints? Should the tie rod ends and sterring dampener be reaplced aswell. Also wondering what the toe in specs and things should be for the truck now that it's lifted and has 315's on it?

yes do your tie rods as well, im not sure on the steering stabilizer, you may, you may not. ive read where guys have replaced the stabilizer and the problem still remained. i personally have never had DW, but ive seen it and that ***** scary. most of the time it pertains to the balljoints and or tierods or the trackbar. like i said call don thuren. great guy to deal with and he'll help you get this all sorted out. be sure to post back for future reference so others down the line will know how to fix it. id like to know what fixes it for sure as well! good luck!

I think randomly throwing money at the problem is not the answer. READ HERE and YES your 1500 MegaCab is built on a 2500 series HD chassis, they have the same exact design as a 2500. Incase you didn't know.
As far as the steering stabilizer, a few guys I know upgraded with great reviews. Will it fix your problem, that I dont know?

I have an 08 2500 with a 2.5" level on BFG 315's and had the death wobble BAD. First check out your alignment and make sure none of your front end components aren't worn out. Caster is critical to keep out the death wobble, 5* or more. If all that doesn't work then definitely deal with Don Thuren, I fixed mine with his Fox steering stabilizer. I also added his adjustable track bar but that didn't fix the issue by itself. Hope this helps, DW sucks bad...
