STALL...2005 Ram 1500 4.7L
I have a 2wd 2005 Dodge Ram w/ the 4.7L. I've been dealing with a problem for the past few months and it's coming to the point where I get rid of the truck or find a way to fix the problem. The issue I'm having is when the truck is cold and I come to a stop, the truck acts like it wants to stall. The rpm's drop and if I have my foot hard on the brake, the truck stalls out. I throw it is park and it starts right back up. If I drive it for a while and get it to temp, sometimes it drops the rpm's, but usually won't stall. Quite a few times it has gone into safety mode and I've solved that by turning off the key and letting it sit for a few secs before I restart it. It throws the general transmission fault code (not sure on number). I tried changing out the solenoid pack, but nothing changed. The only thing I've noticed that keeps it from stalling is to throw it into Neutral before I come to a stop. Another thing I've noticed lately is when trying to drive up hills, the truck seems to have no power. I usually have to give it some more gas for it to drop into a lower gear to get me up the hill. As far as fixes go, I've been told its the torque converter and also the vacuum pressure. Took it into a Dodge Dealer and of course they couldn't get it to repeat the problem. Pretty handy mechanically and willing to try most anything!
Sounds like torque converter. Have you been able to check the fuel pressure or tried swapping the battery. Maybe even cleaning the Idle Air Control Selinoid. I would hate for it to be the torque converter. It can give you some strange issues or give you no warning at all and just go. My jeep Liberty never gave me any warning and just crapped out at 54K.
