Default transmission test

As my 2005 is still new to me, I'm trying different things to make it better and i got to thinking about the inefficiency of the transmission that is in this truck. I don't have the budget right now for a new torque convertor or anything like that, but I was wondering, is there any kind of test (besides pulling the dipstick and checking the condition of the oil) that I can do that will give me an indication on the health of my transmission?

not really no. without expensive scanners, and pressure test ports, and computers, the only way really is checking the fluid (color, level and smell) and see how it performs during everyday driving (slipping, clunking, weird shifts, etc...)

Well there are no strange noises or anything of that nature and the oil is nice and red with a normal smell, but I was hoping to be able to check (very simple check) if there was any slippage.

Every once in a while I feel an extremely light surge during light acceleration, so light in fact that I think it is barely noticeable and could be just my mind playing tricks on me.

best thing you can do for your tranny is monitor the temps. and keep them down. theres a DIY up in the FAQS that shows you how to install a tranny temp gauge. its cheap and easy.

You can have your CVI numbers scanned at the dealer. If they are on the big end of the acceptable ranges then your clutch packs are almost wore out.

I like your idea... how 'bout I give you my phone number and you call my wife and explain why I need it.

If the clutch's were starting to wear, is that something that I would notice, or would they have to be getting bad before I would notice anything.

For the record, I don't think there is anything wrong, I just like to keep my stuff is A1 condition.
