Default Gears on my 04 1500

Hello all
I seem to have blown up my rearend gears, I guess the pinion bearing went and the nut holding the pinion gear fell off, gear fell out bam no more ring gear and pinion, I have ordered a new gear and they sent me a 390 according to dodge vin number it should be 392, can I use this gear setup, How will it effect the 4 wheel drive. Thanks

it was most likely the retaining clip that fell out and chewed everything all up. its a known problem on 1500s with a factory LSD. what size gear did you have in before? 3.92 comes on a lot of rams nowadays. its a decent gear. but if i were in your position, i would order 4.10s, or even 4.56s. these trucks really do great with the taller gearing.

Even though it's close it could cause some definite issues. I would get that order changed fast, if you have the change you could upgrade to 4.56's but if not make sure you get the 3.90 3.92 deal straightened out.

We dont even know if he drives a 4wd or a 2wd, if he drives a 2wd then it doesnt even matter what gears he puts in as long as they fit the carrier. Hell, he could go 4.88's if its a 2wd lol.

I don't think 3.90s is out of spec with 3.92 fronts. Back in the day I had a 2nd Gen Ram you couldn't get 4.11s for the AAM rear axle or 4.10s for the Dana front. So everybody going to gears in that range ran 4.10s in the rear and 4.11s in the front with no problem whatsoever...

In reality, he still hasnt stated what it is lol. There's been plenty of times guys with 2wd trucks come on here wondering if they need to change their front "gears" too not knowing there arent any. Also, pointedstick, not sure where you bought the parts either? It's really hard finding an aftermarket 3.92 gear for the 9.25 carrier. If you got it from Dodge, I'm not sure why they would even sell a 3.90 for your year truck. Are you having the dealer do the repair, a gear shop, or yourself?

The truck Is a 4 wheel drive. I got the parts from carquest. dodge wanted over 1000 dollars for just the ring gear. the place where they ordered the gear from said it would make no difference.I will be putting the gears in myself.
