Hey fellas, I have a question for all the 3rd gen guru's.

What is the difference between the 1500 mega cab and the 2500 mega cab? It appears the half ton has the same axles, but I'm not for sure. And what about the rest of the drive-train (tranny, transfer case, etc.), is that the same/different? Or is it just the spring rates?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Or even a link to facts about this sort of information.

the way i understand it is they are the same! Both are built on the 3/4 ton chassis same axles and drivetrain, just a different classification for licensing.

 

The mc was / is put on the 2500 chasis. which means I haven't looked at the bolt pattern when I was At the dealers. sob. That would of answered your question.
But then again ramhunter is always complaining of the three extra bolts he has, So the mc is a 2500 in a stretched out 1500's body. imo

 

As far as I knew the MegaCab is only made in the 1500 series trim but is still built on the 2500 series frame. The truck is very long and heavy and therefore has reduced towing/hauling capacities so it canot tow near as much as a normal 2500 but instead has the capacities of only a 1500.
So, it has 2500 frame, brakes, lugs, rear end....etc... 8-bolt lug pattern.

 

You can get a 2500 Mega. It's a CTD.

 

If the only difference between a 2500 & 1500 is the ctd the 1500 should have a higher tow rating.

I have to agree, a 15MC is a 25

 

2500's have stiffer front springs, stiffer frame(so I've heard??) and 5 rear springs, 1500 has 4 rear leaf springs. Other than that, they are identical. The 2500 is still available w/ the HEMI. Not only the CTD.

 

That is still one big a$$ truck ! Anybody seen the price tag on these bueaties, Wow! But still cheaper and better imo, than a furd 250 or larger.

 

Well OK, I do know for sure the 1500 MC has the sam AAM axles with 8 bolt hubs. I also know that you can get the MC in a 3/4 ton and 1 ton, even a dually (short box one at that). And yes, you can get a diesel in the 3/4 ton and 1 ton too.

The main reason I ask is I am looking at purchasing a newer truck, possibly a MC. And I know I cant afford a diesel (even if it has 150k miles on it hahahha), but I also said I would never purchase a half ton again after owning this one. But, since I would be getting a hemi anyway, and the half ton appears to be just as stout as the 3/4 ton (drive-train wise), I figure why not. Plus they are quite a bit cheaper. And for those who were questioning price, I have found some half ton 06's for under $20k, but most are barley under 100k miles. For one with 50k miles they are closer to the $25k.


So anyway, no real facts yet, but a lot of "pretty sures" that are matching mine too .

I cant believe how hard it is to find a built sheet of some sort on these trucks. Damn.
