The gears are definitely working too hard for those size tires. Yeah, it's already getting hot down here. You're only about 20 minutes from me in Apopka.

BTW, on a side note Phantom, you may want to change your description of your vehicle under the join date. You're gonna get flamed really quick. You definitely don't drive a 2x4 piece of wood. lol

I have a similar issue going on with my 2002 Ram its stock and when towing this last trip the temp gauge kept popping on. I would stop and l;et it cool down and continue driving un til it came on again. I just got a new superchip flashpaq and this was the maiden voyage on the new programming. I never had this issue before reprogramming and I was driving at some higher elevations. I stopped at a Walmart and got some brake clean and engine degreaser to wash out the transmission cooler it looked like it had some build up in it and gave it a good wash down at a car wash. I also got some sea foam transmission additive to see if it would help. The trans never slipped or shifted erratically and on the return trip the light popped on again after 45 minutes on the road. I stopped for a refuel and let it cool down and 2hrs after I left I arrived home and no transmission light issues.

The fluid still has another 20k to go before its due for a change but I may change it ahead of time and look into a larger trans cooler then the factory one of it continues. The curious thing is it never did this before it was reprogrammed in the towing mode.

I don't know if this helps your situation 04Phantom or perhaps someone has a suggestion that I did not consider. The other possibility is that I may have pump pressure issues due to the high mileage but that's a long shot .

As everyone else told the OP, you need a trans temp gauge to monitor the temps to know exactly what is going on. It is normal to run higher in temps when you are towing buy obviously you do not want to over heat it as that would be bad.

A lot of guys do swap out their trans cooler for the 1 ton cooler and I think it costs about $75 (??).
