To all of you out there that are debating about which way to go, Homebrew or genuine K&N, here is my opinion:
I have previously installed K&N CAI on my buddy's Nismo Frontier and really thought that the intake was nice, but not anything exclusive. That's why I thought I was gonna build a homebrew one for my '08 Ram, but after I couldn't find any 4" pvc here in SoCal I bought a genuine K&N CAI (Ebay, $250, original factory seal). I am really impressed of the quality build; the molded pipe is glass smooth on the inside, and there are no angles, just curves. This makes a difference with the airflow compare to the pvc elbows. Plus, the filter itself is absolutely massive. The whole kit is very well designed. Now, I am not trying to knock on the homebrew, but I am really happy with my purchase. Already gained 2mpg in the city, and I am romping on it every chance I get (can't get enough of that Magnaflow!).

That size PVC is plentiful in Houston, TX. And I am sure that it is hotter here than most areas! LOL
When I did this, I bought a 10' piece of 4" thin walled PVC....it might have cost $8 at Home Depot.
