Default Help identify plug under driver side dash please

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. I am trying to hardwire my Garmin Nuvi. Under the driver side dash there is a plug that isn't plugged into anything. I tested it and one of the wires is a 12 volt lead with the ignition on. Does anyone know what this plug is used for?

In the first picture I am pointing to where the plus is behind the dash

Here is the picture of the plug.

Thank you all for the help..

David

It is for the optional power pedals. There are probably 10 unused plugs floating around in your dash. Dodge uses the same wiring harnesses for their trucks, then adds accessories as they are built. I found 3 behind my stereo bezel.

Agreed. There's a smaller one under the wheel behind the knee bolster. Those are usually a good source for switched and unswitched power sources.

it would be better if your power on the gps is not switched, this is just my opinion, my tomtom takes like 10 minutes to load up and reach a satalite (hate tomtom) You would be fine though as long as you fuse the power lead before the acual splice concidering your gps is a computer device, any spike in voltage could fry it

VSS is only accessible at the PCM plugs on the pass side firewall in the engine bay.

davb, why do you want the VSS wire? If you're thinking about tapping into it, i wouldnt. Thats one wire you dont wanna potentially affect the voltages on with outside equipment
