I am not a paint expert, but I just had my chrome bumpers painted. The shop used a DA sander on them to roughen them up, wiped them down a couple of times, primered them and then painted them. I'm not happy with the quality of their work on some of the areas of the body, But the bumpers came out ok. What I found out is that painted bumpers really change the look of the truck and I don't like the look of the rear painted bumper on a lowered truck. I've found another shop and ill be going back for some more work soon.

Damn Sinus, thats a lot of material! And me personally 220 was the most aggressive grit I used. And I prefer a self etching primer compared to a filler primer. Self etching has always stuck better for me.

I just painted my fake chrome grill to match the paint on my dakota. I scuffed it with a heavy scotchbrite pad, cleaned it with wax and grease remover. Then you have to spray it with etching primer and then paint it. I did the same thing with my diamond plate tool box, it worked great. The shop where i bought the paint for the truck origanlly mixed acrylic enamel with hardner in a spray can and matched the color perfect. Once it dried i buffed it with compound and it turned out great.

I can't pull up the full episode on my work computer, but the guys on Muscle Car had a bit about painting chrome rims and I believe in the same shot he has a Ram and he painted his bumper using the same technique he used on the rims and said it worked great. Here's the link if you want to watch it, you may have to pull up that episode but it should be on the website.

I really thought I posted my pictures from my grill job recently. I'll make my own thread, with the steps.
