Default Trans temp: SC vs. gauge ??

Not necessarily looking for an explanation, but more of a comment. With my recent update of my Superchips, I got the ability to data-log the transmission temp. I have an electric gauge in the a-pillar pod, so I wanted to compare the numbers. Went on a long drive tonight and plugged in the SC. After fully warming up everything, I notice while traveling down an absolutely flat stretch of road at 50 mph for 5+ miles, outside temp at 70-75 degrees, SC showed the temp slowly climbing to 150, but the gauge dropped down to about 118. Whhaa? After stopping at a stoplight, SC temp went DOWN to about 138 within ten seconds, and the gauge temp started to climb. After leaving the stoplight and getting back up to 50 mph, the gauge kept climbing back towards about 130-132 and SC showed 142. Obviously the sources of temp are in different areas of the trans (gauge is in the TCI ? port on the side of the trans).

Mostly it just seems weird that SC shows a 32 degree delta from the gauge while cruising at 50, but drops 10-12 degrees almost drops immediately after stopping.

The thing I would be wondering is where is the sensor for your gauge reading at on the trans and where is SC getting the trans temp from? It could be possible both are correct depending on where they are reading the temps at.

I agree with weed, they are probably both right, but one is reading from one place and the other is reading from a different place. The SC is reading the stock trans temp sensor while that test port where the guage is tapped into is probably reading the temps from the incoming side of the cooler lines from the sound of it.

I agree that the sensors are reading from different parts of the trans and they are probably both correct, but it's odd to me that the temp that SC sees would drop so quickly after stopping. Maybe the sensor is in the pan and stopping sloshes the cooler fluid around to mix with the hotter fluid up against the sensor.

I recall from a post a year ago that someone had two sensors (one at the test port and one in the hot cooler line), and he saw around 15 degree differences between the two. It will be interesting to see the delta of trans temp changes as the weather gets hotter. It was 100 deg here in Phoenix today. Spring is OVER for sure...

mine generally reads 140*-160* from winter to summer here. So its not as big of a difference as what you may think as long as everything is working right. And thats to and from work, Gilbert to Phoenix and back.

Just for added input. Reading my AI I get 144 on the highway and have gotten as high as 168 playing hard.
