Default Can I use 06 MDS motor in 04 Hemi Ram ?

Hello

I am replacing the motor in my 2004 5.7 non-mds Hemi Ram with a 2006 5.7 MDS motor

Can I just replace the MDS solenoid with the plastic plugs that were in the 2004 motor to make it work ?

Thanks

first off why would you want mds ? second should fit if the motor mounts are the same and it adapts to your tranny .

the MDS system has 4 different hydraulic lifters that work on sensors when u apply power they work and when you release the power the MDS lifters collapse when no power or torque is being applied.. they collapse just enough so that the the cam lifts them there isnt enough spring pressure to push on the rocker to open the valves.

EDIT: and ya MDS sucks lol ... I am awaiting to deactivate mine.

The old motor in the car lost oil and broke

so I bought another motor and didn't know it was a MDS motor.. so I took the MDS solenoids and replaced them with the plastic plugs that were in the old motor..

I started the motor today and the motor was not running on all 8.. maybe it could be the plugs but probably the problem is that the MDS solenoids are not in the motor and thats the reason it does not run on all 8

I checked all the spark wires and fired up again but now I saw that there were no oil pressure so I shut the car off

Could I put the MDS solenoids in the car and wired them up so they would always be open or is there something else that I can do ?

I used 10-40w oil.. is that ok ?

thanks in advance

MDS is suppose to run on 5w 20 for the hydraulic lifters. Just the other day i was thinking about changing the lifters with regular ones and a new cam. lol id say thats why it wasn't running on all 8 because u said u took out the solenoid that drives the system, so basically those 4 MDS lifters weren't lifting hahah. so maybe if u take out the solenoid AND the Lifters it might work ...
Keep me updated haha
good luck

But could I insert the mds solenoids and would the motor then work ? or would I also have to get power to them to ?

I dont know much how this MDS system work

I would think that your PCM is not set up for a MDS system seeming that it only came about in the newer models. BUT I'm not sure how much voltage or current the system needs to run but maybe if you put it back in and have direct power to it at all times it may work .. I.E. keeping the solenoid energized at all times. Might work, In my head it does but thats not always reliable. lol

Agreed. I suspect the computer doesn't know it has a MDS motor.

no it definitely doesn't recognize the MDS system in that engine, You may be able to by pass it, but then your PCM well be picking it up and causing trouble in some other area such as your cam/crank position sensors, who knows haha.. in my opinion the only way to get it to work good is replace the lifters and cams. but that gets pricey.. even thou it may cause CEL to come on or something, I would give byPassing it a try any way. lol beats buying a new engine.

Yeah, I know that the pcm in the car does not work with MDS, I was just thinking of ways to let it work.
