I thought about doing the same thing (except the prius), then I found an in-between solution (so I thought) I bought a 92 s-dime with a 2.8 V-6 and told myself this is a gas saver not a toy! Wrong it has became just another project.

Now its sittin in front of the Dodge with the bed stripped off and the frame primed awaiting an exspensive bag system and an outragous sound system, but after the honeymoon the soon to be mrs. says.

^^ actually the first gen prius doesnt look like a prius at all. They look much more similar to the toyota echo, and actually arent even a hybrid, just a very small engine. The prius everyone thinks of is the 2nd gen prius (04-08) which started the hybrid synergy drive system that revolutionized the hybrids. Up until the prius, all hybrids were gas powered with electric assist. The prius is electric powered with gas assist. The engine ONLY turns on when needed to charge the batteries. Since then, toyota has sold the technology to other companies (ford being one of them with the escape hybrid) so there are several models with this type of hybrid system.

And whoever it was that said "what happens when the batteries die?" Toyota has a 10yr/100k mi warranty on them, and they'll probably outlast most gas engines.

AF that nickle battery is like cancer for the ground...Although this cancer we call oil isnt making a good name for itself concidering Obamma couldnt figure out to put the Armycore of engineers and the Navy on the seen at day one(explitive moron) 5 weeks later Im wondering what gas will sore to when they fix it. The battery is mucho mando expensive and I have known 4 people with priusus and 3 have already gone through the battery. Buy Gas power!

Good move! I wish more people would get on the environmental band wagon and purchase hybrid vehicles...

Thus conserving gasoline for guys like me who own TWO lifted, V8, gas guzzling vehicles!!! LMAO!!!

I'm about to be de-trucked soon, too. Moving to Europe and can't take it with me. I think I might just rebel emotionally over there and buy a Smart Car. Maybe it's time to get that Volvo S60R I've always wanted...
