I feel bad for ya. That really sucks. I hope that it is totaled. Because some times they take for ever to fix a truck and it still isn't right when you do get it back.

A transponder key system means the engine computer is supposed to refuse to run without the key present. The transponder should NOT simply interrupt the starter signal wire. If that is indeed the case, they're really wasting their money on this system. I shouldn't have to install an alarm w/ starter kill on a truck with such a fancy stock setup.

Try to start my Subaru without the key. The starter will turn all day but the ECU won't fire a single spark no matter what wires you connect at the lock cylinder.

Ouch. Sorry man. Well, at least you have some closure and it's not just missing forever wondering what happened to it. Hope the insurance company comes through for you.

Dang man that sucks, more the reason for me to hurry and invest in my alarm/remote start. Good luck with the truck, hopefully they can catch the fools who did it.

Default Here's some helpfull info...

Hey Brother, sorry about your truck.

I just went through this last fall and I am with State Farm also.

Here's a few tips that I used for a successful outcome
  1. You need to build a package to submit to your assessment officer with State Farm.
  2. You don't want this truck now, trust me. It'll be nothing but a headache. Just walk away from it. Build your package to get the best possible settlement from your insurance.
  3. Gather up any and all reciepts you have for your truck. If you don't have them, go back to to the retailer and maybe they'll have it on file for you. This matters when determining the vehicle's value.
  4. Have ALL the mechanical components assessed as well as the body damage. Mine only had $2000 in body damage, but the motor was pooched from one cylinder with no compression and the tranny was slipping.
  5. Start doing research NOW on replacement value. Nevermind with the wholesale pricing; you want the retail pricing. Look at Auto Trader and other online advertisers, dealers and find truck ads of the same year as yours. You really want the over priced stuff! Once you find an ad, print it off for your package. I submitted about six ads with my package.
  6. Any piece of paper that adds value to your truck like Bill of Sale, Receipts, Ads for other trucks of the same year, Pictures of your truck to show it's condition are what you should have in your package. Remember, if it ain't on paper, it dosen't exist.
  7. Go to your local Ma Mopar Dealer Parts/Service department and politly ask them for the build sheet for your truck. You'll need your VIN number for this. This will show the options that were on your truck. Think value added options!
Also, if it wasn't attached to the truck and is now missing, you are likely S.O.L.
I submitted 22 documents to build the package I put in for my truck. I paid $11,995 for my truck. Drove it for two years and State Farm gave me $12,300 for it. It pays to do your homework my friend.

Good Luck!

I didn't think they used the transponder keys in the '04s?
